Grokonians
Grokonians are the GX Hub's own coin — points you earn by being in the hall and spend on things in the hall. They are whole numbers only (no fractions), they live on the hub's servers, and they are points, not money.
How you earn them
Playing games
Play a game inside the hub and the game awards Grokonians as you play — finishing levels, winning rounds, reaching milestones, whatever that game rewards. You will see your count in the header climb, and a “Grokonians connected” badge on the game's page means the connection is live.
- Games award them in small handfuls: at most 10 per award, and awards land no faster than about one per second.
- One play session can earn at most 300, and one game can pay you at most 200 per day. The caps keep every game's economy honest.
- You do not even need an account to start: the hub keeps a player id in your browser. Sign in and that balance links to your account, so it follows you.
- A game played outside the hub cannot pay hub Grokonians — the award travels through the hub page around the game frame.
Watching movies and series
Watching an episode or movie in the hall earns 5 once you have watched at least 30 seconds of it — up to 50 a day from watching.
Publishing games
When other people earn Grokonians in a game you published, you receive a 10% creator share of what they earn — plus 1 extra for each new player of your game each day — up to 500 a day per game. Your profile keeps the two piles separate: what you earned from playing and what you earned from publishing. Making your own game is covered in How to make a game for the GX Hub.
How you spend them
- The Shop — accessories for your GX Bot avatar: hats, glasses, shirts and more, from 40 Grokonians (Round Specs) up to 400 (the Byte Crown), plus profile banners and the Byte Wings at 500. A few things in the shop are not sold at all — they unlock through achievements instead.
- GX Monsters — your 3D monster avatar on the avatar page. There are 126 of them: the 36 Common monsters are free and yours from the start. The rest are bought with Grokonians — Uncommon 25–60, Rare 75–150, Epic 200–400, Legendary 500–900, and the six Mythic monsters at 1,500–3,000.
- Inside games — a game can sell its own things for the Grokonians you have earned in it. In Watchmen on the Wall, for example, the power orbs — Strength, Swiftness, Mending, Iron, Thunder — are bought mid-battle with Grokonians.
Buying is safe by construction. Every purchase on the hub goes through one door, and the hub checks before it charges: if you cannot afford something, the sale is refused and nothing is charged. If you already own it, the sale is refused too — you can never be charged twice for the same thing. What you own stays owned.
Your balance and the ledger
Your balance is the number beside “Grokonians” in the header of every page, and your profile shows the full picture: your total, how much came from playing, how much from publishing, and your most recent movements.
Every single movement — every award, every creator share, every purchase — is written into the hub's ledger on the server. Your real balance lives there, not in any game: a game only hears the number the hub sends back, and no game can change it. Balances cannot be edited by players, and there is no way to type yourself a bigger number.
What Grokonians are not
- Not real money. They are points. They have no cash value and cannot be cashed out.
- Not for sale. There is no way to buy Grokonians — the only way to get them is to earn them in the hall.
- Not transferable. You cannot send Grokonians to another player, and nobody can send them to you. What you earn is yours; what you spend is spent.
One day, the hall's founder hopes Grokonians might grow into something bigger, the way other game worlds' coins did. That is a hope for later — this page describes the hub exactly as it stands today.
